In the Openers section of our summer issue, I highlighted many of the recent changes in the travel industry, including the new charges to check baggage. Today, the Star Tribune reports that Northwest Airlines is raising its baggage fees in addition to upping the fee for tickets changes and cutting 2,500 jobs. "Northwest will begin charging many customers $15 for a first checked bag and up to $100 for redeeming frequent-flier miles. Charges to change some domestic tickets will jump to $150, up from $100. Some international change fees will rise even more."
For those of you traveling for events and carrying important event supplies, I imagine the addition of more fees for baggage is a blow. Has anyone figured out a good solution to the problem? Do these fees make you less likely to plan events out of state? Talk about how recent changes in the travel industry have changed the way you do business.
