The summer issue of Meetings: Minnesota's Hospitality Journal hits desks late next week, but I wanted to whet readers' appetites with a little sneak peek at what looks to be another great issue (I'm biased, I know), mixed with helpful articles and columns as well as thorough reporting on thought-provoking topics and people.
+ Assistant Editor Marni Ginther wrote a thoughtful, smart profile on the restaurateurs of the moment, Tim McKee and Josh Thoma. These handsome entrepreneurs talk about their noteworthy collaborations (Solera, La Belle Vie) as well as their separate upcoming adventures (hello soon to Guthrie's Sea Change and the Warehouse District's Bar La Grassa).
+ Associate Editor Ellie Bayrd chatted with key players in the F&B industry, such as Hospitality Minnesota's Dave Siegel and Morrissey Hospitality's Bill Morrissey, about how the recession has affected catering, as well as what local caterers can do to save you money.
+ We call attention to some unique and trustworthy meeting spaces in both our edit and advertorial sections, including the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Crowne Plaza St. Paul Riverfront Hotel, Lafayette Club and Paradise Charter Cruises - all superb spaces to gather during the summer months, if not all year round.
+ I truly enjoyed being an ear for suppliers as they discussed their pet peeves about RFPs and then giving them an opportunity to offer advice and tips for planners on how both sides can best work together when RFPs are involved. I learned a lot, and I hope you do, too.
+ For our cover story, Marni once again took a tough topic - defending meetings - and constructed an interesting story that covers both the national and local landscape and how leaders, including our own Bonnie Carlson, Melvin Tennant and Brad Jones, are forming strong partnerships to keep meetings from getting a bad reputation. It's a story not to missed and I hope it will start many discussions in our local hospitality industry.
+ What else? You'll also find a Q&A with a lawyer who specializes in hospitality law, a case study on the successful and budget-conscious use of Broadway entertainment, a detailed Editor's Note from Joel Schettler, and many more words from the mouths of Minnesota's meetings industry.
Intrigued? I hope so. You'll just have to wait a few more days!
